I Won't Go Back

Every third Sunday morning at Good Shepherd, the rockin’ and rowdy choir gets to be a part of leading worship.  I thoroughly enjoy being in the alto section of this choir, and it has been such a great opportunity to get to know other church members and have a musical outlet. Another reason I love choir is the opportunity to learn and sing new songs. A few weeks ago, we were introduced to one I had never heard before but instantly fell in love with. It’s called I Won’t Go Back by William McDowell. Part of it goes like this:

And right now is the moment

Today is the day

I’ve been changed; I’ve been changed

And I have waited for this moment to come

And I won’t let it pass me by

So we say

I won’t go back, can’t go back, to the way it used to be

Before your presence came and changed me

So we say

I won’t go back, can’t go back, to the way it used to be

Before your presence came and changed me

It’s obviously about coming to know Jesus, and through reflection, it also took on a more personal meaning. This journey of trusting and dreaming has greatly revealed to me that God has such incredible faithfulness and timing. It hasn’t been easy and the journey has been long, but the fuller, richer relationship with Him has been well worth it. To walk daily in His presence and feel Him give me courage in the midst of it all has been more than I could ever ask or imagine. I have felt more alive in Christ and grown deeper spiritually in the process of stepping out in faith. It’s something I don’t want to let go of, and I don’t ever want to go back to a time where I felt complacent and comfortable. I don’t want to go back to a time where I held everything close and didn’t trust God to help me and take care of it all. I can’t go back to a time where I depended on my own strength. I have waited too long for this opportunity, and the grace and favor and peace He has given me in this adventure is something I never want to turn from. Right now is the moment. Today is the day…I have waited for this moment to come, and I won’t let it pass me by…”
